Efficiency of Common Machines

When a machine does work, it always transforms from one form of energy to another or transfers energy to one object or another. For example, a solar cell car transforms its light energy (from the solar cells) into electrical energy. The electrical energy then is used to create motion (kinetic energy) to make the car move. During this process the car also creates many other forms of energy such as sound energy and thermal energy. However, the main purpose of the car is for transportation, thus the useful work output would be to create motion or otherwise known as kinetic energy. Below is a chart of the efficiency of common machines and mechanisms.
