Energy comes in many different forms, but they all can be classified in into to categories Kinetic and Potential Energy.
Kinetic Energy When an object is moving, the energy it has is Kinetic energy. An example of that would be a rock being dropped, since the rock is moving it has kinetic energy.

Potential Energy Potential Energy is the exact opposite of Kinetic Energy. Any energy that is stored is called potential energy. An example of that is an apple sitting on a table. Since the energy is being stored it is potential energy.
