Don't you just hate sitting on furniture that you KNOW you shouldn't be sitting on because of how uncomfortable it is, but you have no other choice than to sit on it? Well, thats why ergonomists look to find ways of reducing stress and strain in items and equipment like furniture. They may use softer or "comfier" material to make the user of the item feel more comfortable, or add extra components that support other body parts. Below are a few examples comparing items that have been ergonomically improved:
Radius Garden Weeder

The radius garden weeder is an amazing ergonomically improved garden tool. It allows your hand to keep a natural wrist posistion that does not cause stress or strain. A normal garden shovel's handle is straight which causes your hand to bend and feel stress or strain. Also, it is made out of an aluminum/magnesium alloy that is similar to steel but is much lighter and does not cause your hand to hurt from holding a heavier garden tool for a long period of time. Finally, its jagged edges and pointed end allows the user to cut through weeds with ease and pop them out with less force. A regular garden shovel does not have such luxury because its edges are flat and not as sharp.

Movable Chair

This movable chair is a very comfortable ergonomically improved item. It has 5 wheels at the bottom which provide a great freedom of movement because you don't have to constantly get up to pick up the chair and move it. This must be done if using the wooden chair because it only has 4 legs with no wheels and it may cause stress or strain to the legs and back if you have to constantly pick up the chair and move it to a different position. The movable chair also has a full armrest on either side which provides support to the arms and shoulders. This is because your arms must be in a 90° angle when you are sitting in order to prevent stress on your arms or shoulders. Lastly, the movable chair has a cushioned back rest and bottom that make the user feel very comfortable because with the wooden chair it is hard and stiff which can cause stress or strain to your back, rear and neck.

Vibram Five-Finger Shoes

Vibram five-finger Shoes are ergonomically improved shoes that were designed to give their user's feet more space to move and not squeeze together in a tight space. Allowing each toe to have its own space will prevent stress or strain because they are not tightly packed together in the sneaker. The shoe itself is made out of a softer material compared to the sneaker which will be more comfortable for the user's feet. Also, the Vibram five-finger shoe is binded with a strap instead of laces which will allow quick strapping. When tying the laces for the sneaker, however, you have to bend down in a slouched position and this can cause stress or strain if you are in that position for too long.
