Productivity is how much of a certain good is produced in a certain time unit. To manage productivity there are a number of things you need to do. These include understanding what people need to do to get what consumers want, how much time it will take to do this and what resources you need to do this. These things are not in the hands of the individual worker though, it is in the hands of the company in charge. To read more on productivity click here.

In many years in the past, goods were made individualy or in small groups. For example a small group of people would built whole cars. But now many everyday items are mass produced. This works by having multiple groups of people or machines in a factory and each group does a different job. The employees or machines are set along a conveyor and they do their job as the material or product comes by. This is called an assembly line and is much cheaper because you dont have to pay the employees as much. But still today some products are still hand crafted. Products made on an assemblare often lower quality than these.
