An inclined plane is a simple machine that is a flat surface that is higher on one end. You can use this machine to move an object to a higher or lower place. You wouldn't need as much energy and force to move objects with an inclined plane. Other names for this simple machine are a ramp or a wedge.

The Screw

Another example of an inclined plane is a screw. A screw consists of a narrow inclined plane wrapped around a cylinder or cone. A screw always has a head so it can be twisted and fastened. Another name or a screw is a bolt. Screws or bolts can be made in different sizes for different purposes.
