Stephanie's Home Page of Work and Energy

As you are sitting in class copying down notes you accidentally elbow your eraser off of your desk. You may or may not have realized but you have just done work. The science definition of the word work is: the amount of effort spent when a force causes an object to move a distance and energy is transferred. When your elbow moved and pushed the eraser, a force acted on that eraser and caused it to fall off your desk. Since a force was applied to the eraser that caused it to travel a distance, work had been done. From this webpage you will be able to learn about the topic work and energy.

Look at the pictures below and see if you can identify if work is being done.
