Input and Output Forces

Definitions:

- Input force (F in): Force that is applied to a machine.

- Output force (F out): Force that a applies to an object.

Explanation: Whenever a machine is being used to do work, two forces are always involved. One is called input force and the other is called output force. The input force (F in) is defined as the force exerted on the machine. The output force (F out) is defined as either the force that the machine applies to the object or the force required to move the object without using a machine.
Other terms for input and output force:
~ input force : The effort force.
~ output force: The load force.

Notes:

- A force is always being used when a machine is being used.
- There are two different forces that are used on a machine 1. input force and 2. output force.
- So when you are exerting force you are using input force (F in).
- and the force that is acting on the object is called output force (F out).
- You measure force by using Newtons (N)
