In a lever there are three main parts, this page will introduce you to these parts. All levers fall into one of three classes of levers, all of them are composed of these main parts in some shape or form.
The Fulcrum (The Pivot)
the fulcrum is the pivot point of the lever.
can be placed anywhere along the arm of the lever.
the placement of the fulcrum determines how much effort you need to lift the load.
The Load
also known as the output force, or the resistance.
the load is the item or weight that you are trying to lift with the lever
The Effort
the force one exerts on the end of the lever
the force that is transferred through the lever and eventually used to life the load.
the heavier the load is the more effort you need.
And all of them have and effort arm and a load arm. These are simply the arms on which the effort or the load is exerting its force.
