Weight: The weight of an object is very different than the mass of an object. The weight of an object is the amount of force acting on an object because of gravity. This means that WEIGHT means the same thing as THE FORCE OF GRAVITY.
For example, if you were to travel from Earth to the Moon, your weight would change. The force of gravity is six times stronger
on Earth than it is on the moon, therefore your weight would be six times lighter on the Moon than it is on Earth. However, this
does not mean your MASShas changed on the Moon.
Mass:
Now that we understand that WEIGHT of an object is the amount of force acting on the object because of gravity, we can learn what the difference is between MASS and WEIGHT. Mass is the amount of matter in an object. This means that your MASS does not change as a result of the force of gravity, because MASS is the amount of matter inside you.
For example, if you were to travel from Earth to the Moon, your mass would not change. Even thought the force of gravity is six
times weaker on the Moon than Earth, your mass would still be the same as it was on Earth. This is because the amount of
matter inside of you did not change on your trip.
